FINS & LEASH

FCS II AM Performance Core Tri Fin Set - Grey - Large

FCS II AM Performance Core Tri Fin Set - Grey - Large

The FCS AM Performance Core fin is Al Merrick's signature fin and is designed for radical, progressive surfing. The raked side fins produce exceptional speed and drive, while the smaller center fin offers quick release through turns. Comes with three fins and a fin key.

Performance Core material and construction is designed to deliver the feeling of a traditional fiberglass fin with the added performance of reduced weight.

4.61" base and 4.7" depth.

What's the difference between FCS Glass Flex, Performance Glass, Performance Core and Ultra Light Epoxy?
Great question. Here's a summary as we understand it.

Glass Flex is the FCS material formulation created to capture the flex and memory properties of laminated fiberglass in a fin that is manufactured using injection molding techniques. By using injection molding, FCS can create complex templates with precision and ensure consistent quality in every fin. It's also least expensive way to manufacture fins so the prices reflect that.

Performance Glass fins are the most similar to traditional fiberglass fins. They are machine cut from a fin panel made of 4/6oz fiberglass sheets and polyester resin. The fins are then hand finished and polished.

Performance Core fins are similar to Performance glass fins only with a lightweight core. They are made by molding a sandwich of lightweight Lantor composite (the honeycomb foam structure) between layers of 4oz fiberglass and polyester resin. Each fin is then hand finished and polished giving the fin a glossy smooth feel. The result is a lightweight fin with remarkable flex and an impressive look.

Ultra Light Epoxy fins (the F Series and H-2) are FCS's premier, highest performing fins. The fins are constructed from a polyurethane core over which is molded a variety of fiberglass sheets and epoxy resins under heat and pressure. The result is a fin that is the lightest on the market yet still maintains consistent flex characteristics and strength.

Explain Inside Foil Technology.
If you look at the two side fins of a tri fin set, one side of each fin (the inside) is typically perfectly flat. The other side (the outside) is curved. In hydrodynamic lingo, the curved side is "foiled". FCS has determined that curving ("foiling") both sides of the fin results in better hold and speed. Hence the name "Inside Foil Technology". The foil on the inside is very slight but it makes a difference in the water.
